Susan, Thanks for your shared knowledge. This is one reason why I've decided to do Reverse-osmosis-remineralized with my water ionizer. But how many people can afford to [or have the space or ability to do this? The real answer is to not put Chloramines in our water! ...Cathie [blog-master]

The health issues concerning chloramines are more complex than simply removing the chloramines. While there are filters currently on the market that will reduce monochloramine in the water, these filters will NOT reduce or remove the highly toxic byproducts chloramines creates in the distribution pipes. Some of these are NDMA (an N-nitrosamine), Hydrazine, Iodo Acids and DXAA. If you Google these contaminants you will see that they are genotoxic (damage DNA), cytotoxic (damage cells) and carcinogenic (cause cancer). There are no known filters that can remove or reduce these byproducts.

In addition, while a house filter may protect you against the acute effects of monochloramine in your home, you are still at risk whenever you venture from your home to work, school, friends, relatives, events, restaurants, hotels, etc. Or if you move, you will have to repurchase a filter for your new home. A filter is a band-aid at best and not a very effective one.

The only answer to the problems caused by chloramines is simply not to use chloramine in drinking water systems. We have found through research and the water company’s own documents that chloramines is NOT NECESSARY to clean the water or meet EPA regulations.
In addition to these health effects: chloramines is caustic and leaches lead from the pipes and fixtures causing children to drink dangerous amounts of lead which can cause permanent brain damage. If used in formula, chloramines can cause Blue Baby Syndrome. We have documented massive fish kills across the US and CANADA resulting from main breaks in chloraminated areas. There are also indications that use of chloramines leaves us vulnerable to bioterrorism attack.

Groups of citizens all over the world are fighting against the use of chloramines. Please go to our website if you want to learn more or contact me for more information. www.chloramineinfocenter.net.
